About carhistory.com.au
CarHistory.com.au is Australia’s first online automotive bureau.
We provide the most comprehensive vehicle history information for Australian used car buyers.
CarHistory.com.au is part of the Veda group. Veda is a data and information company that holds Australia’s largest database of consumer and business credit records.
Through providing access to extensive data, CarHistory.com.au aims to reduce fraud and improve transparency in the sale and purchase of second hand vehicles in Australia. We want to make it easier and safer for you to buy your next used car.
Most people know they can do a REVS or VSR check to look for any finance owing on a used car (as of 30 January the PPSR or Personal Property Securities Register will be introduced as a national register replacing the state based REVS and VSR Registers). However many people are unaware that information like whether a car has been written-off, stolen, suffered flood or storm damage or whether the odometer readings are accurate can be tracked. CarHistory.com.au takes this a step further by making this information easily accessible via its online database. Just enter the VIN of the vehicle and a report will be available within seconds.
As used car experts, the team at CarHistory.com.au provides easy to understand used car buying tips, latest news, car safety advice, blogs, videos and of course comprehensive used car history reports.

What the research says
The launch of CarHistory.com.au comes after research conducted in March 2010 found that in the past year, 5% of Australian used car buyers had (either themselves or someone in their family) been misled or deceived about their car’s history during purchase.
The average loss in value or cost of unexpected repairs as a result, is $4,116 per person.
Of the people surveyed, 29% had been involved in an accident. Of those 29%, 72% had their vehicle repaired and 31% had since sold their car. Of the 31%, 53% had not disclosed their car had been involved in an accident.
The research also showed that price and the condition of the vehicle are the most important factors in the purchase decision, followed by brand and age of the vehicle. 40% of those looking for a used car will buy from any source, whether online or in used car lots – they are just looking for the best deal.
CarHistory.com.au brings together extensive data on millions of vehicles from several industry and Government databases including:
- PPSR - formerly REVS (money owing)
- Glasses Guide
- The National Vehicle Information System (NVIS)
- Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries
You can get the history of the car (plus a PPSR Certificate) for only $32.95.
The Car History Report contains:
- Vehicle identification and description
- PPSR Certificate – check for financial encumbrances
- Written off vehicle check
- Stolen vehicle check
- Vehicle sales listings
- Current market valuation
- Repairable write off check
- Pollution and emissions ratings

"I used your report twice. First was for a car I wanted to buy but I suspected had been in an accident. I asked the owner and he told me it had never been involved in a smash. When I did your report it told me the car had been in an accident only 4 months earlier. It had been a repairable write-off. I called the owner and told them about your report and they were stumped for words. I told them they should change their story next time. The second time I used your report I bought the car as it was exactly as the owner had described to me. I would definitely recommend your service, in fact, I have told several people about it already."
Jeremy from Wollongong, NSW - September 2009
"The Veda Auto Report is fantastic. I had found a car that I wanted to buy and decided to put a $1,000 deposit on it. The vehicle looked in great condition and the owner was seemingly open about the vehicles history. I decided to run a Veda Auto Report to be safe and it showed that the vehicle was a repairable write-off only a couple of months earlier. The seller denied all knowledge of the incident. We asked for our money back, but he refused. I only wish we had run the Veda Auto Report earlier so we didn’t put down the deposit. I have since found another vehicle for which I carried out a Veda Auto Report also – which was also reported as a repairable write-off. When I asked the seller he instantly dropped the price from $16,000 to $13,000. William from NSW – December 2009 It saved me $9,500 after the seller denied (forgot) to tell me it was a repairable write off ! It was worth spending $25 to have peace of mind and know what I was buying or not buying."
Jenny from ACT – February 2010
"Veda Auto was great as we were purchasing a car privately and the owner assured us there was not damage to the car yet it had a substantial impact damage which was confirmed by Veda."
Anita from Drummoyne – March 2010
"We were looking to buy a car for our mum. The one we were interested in had low kms, was in great mechanical conditions and was a good price. After an NRMA 100 point inspection, the technician noticed that the car had a few suspect looking front end repairs. He advised us to get a veda check to be sure nothing untoward had happened.
Luckily we did as the car had been written off only 1 month earlier and the resulting repairs were pretty dodgy according to the technician. Due to this, we didn't buy the car and saved ourselves potential problems and costs in the future."
