Cancellation - refers to either automatic or voluntary
cancellation.
- automatic cancellation occurs when a registration payment
is not received within 60 days of the expiry date or is not
received for some other acceptable reason.
- voluntary cancellation of registration is at the registered
operator’s request, the request may be as a result of the
vehicle: being for sale, stolen or destroyed, registered
interstate, no longer used on roads, involved in an accident.
Colour - is the exterior paint of a vehicle, a vehicle can have
two colours; primary which is the more predominant colour
and secondary, which is the less predominant colour.
Engine number - identifies the motor of a motor vehicle/bike
and is any combination of letters/numbers and may vary in
length.
Exempt written-off inspection – Transport and Main Roads has
deemed that the damage sustained by a vehicle is not
sufficient to warrant a written-off vehicle inspection.
History transactions – shows the date the transaction
was recorded in Transport and Main Roads registration
system.
New business - refers to registering a vehicle in
Queensland that is: currently unregistered, registered
interstate or is a new vehicle
Transfer - a change of registered operator (that
is, the person responsible for the operation of the
vehicle).
Pass written-off inspection – an inspection has been
completed for a vehicle which was previously classified as a
repairable write off.
Plate transfer – this indicates that new plates have been
issued due to the original plates being lost, damaged,
stolen or that customised / personalised plates have been
removed / attached.
Police report reference number - the reference number
identifying the stolen vehicle report.
Repairable write-off - a vehicle that has been assessed as
uneconomical to repair. The vehicle will only be
re-registered if it is repaired and passes a written-off vehicle
inspection and Safety Certificate inspection. |
REVS / Security Interest Certificate – The register of security
interests (otherwise known as REVS) provides access to a
database of vehicles that have money owing on them.
When a bank, finance company or individual takes out an
interest in a vehicle (that is, provides a loan to the owner)
they register their interest in the vehicle with the
Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation.
Statutory write-off – a vehicle that is too badly damaged to
be repaired to a standard that is safe for road use,
therefore it is suitable only for use as parts or scrap. The
vehicle will not be allowed to be registered.
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) - a unique alpha
numeric combination of 17 characters assigned to
a vehicle. It does not contain the letters I, O or Q.
Written-off date – the date the vehicle was assessed as
a write-off.
Written-off vehicles - those vehicles which have been in
an accident, or suffered some form of water, fire or
malicious damage. Written-off vehicles are classified as
either a statutory or repairable write-off.
NSW Written-Off Vehicle Pass - a vehicle showing a
NSW written-off vehicle inspection pass may require
further inspection before being eligible for registration.

Written-off vehicle damage details:
Dismantled - a statutory write-off that is stripped of interior
and exterior body parts, panels and components.
Fire damage – sections or all of the vehicle has been
burnt by fire.
Hail damage – sections or all of the vehicle has been
damaged by hail.
Impact damage – damage caused, due to violent contact
with another object.
Malicious damage - wilful damage or destruction of a
vehicle.

Unrecovered theft – a stolen vehicle that has not been
recovered – contact the relevant registration authority.
